Flip Mini HD Camcorder Review
Flip MinoHD Camcorder, 60 Minutes (Black)
Flip Video MinoHD Camcorder - now reduced from $199 to $119 - an $81 saving!
Cool Features: This year's MinoHD has clear, 720p video for it's compact, 3.3 ounce size. It is super easy to use which is great even for the tech savvy person who won't have much explaining to do for the electronically impaired! It boasts one-touch video uploading to YouTube and other video sites which is one of the greatest features of Flip technology. It contains a lithium, rechargeable battery. FlipShare software is compatible with both Mac and Windows. The transflective LCD display means you can see the screen in bright daylight! 4GB of internal memory can play a clear, full screen video clip. Sharing files is super easy, even by email. The sound quality is clear and the cam comes with a tripod mount and carrying pouch.
Not so Cool Features: There is no SD/MMC card expansion slot which is very inconvenient, as it can only shoot about 120 minutes of video. The rechargeable battery isn't removable or replaceable so you aren't able to have a charged battery ready to go. Although this mini camera is high definition, the AV jack outputs are only standard, so it can't output to HDTV's. Other small video cams have okay sized screens, while LCD display on this one is only 1.46 inches. The touch sensitive buttons are sometimes so sensitive that it's easy to accidentally touch buttons you don't want. While it has clear picture for such a mini camera, it does have some focusing issues and needs to be held very steady. Because of this, Amazon is currently bundling the MinoHD with a mini tripod! Lastly, the new Mino does not have the Movie Mix feature of its last year's model.
The Skinny: In the end, the MinoHD marks another step forward for Flip Video and mini camcorders. Its nicest feature: the simple, one touch uploading which makes it so easy to get your movies on You Tube. Its main drawbacks: no memory expansion slot, and a short-lived, non removable battery.

Amazon rates this 4.5 out of 5 stars
Cool: Shoots 720p HD video at 30ps which is high-quality video for its class; Flip nails the simple shoot and transfer of videos they are known for (either to computer or for direct upload to YouTube and other video file sites); uses N1MH rechargeable AA batteries and it can also use standard alkaline batteries; bigger 2 inch LCD, FlipShare software compatible with both Mac and Windows machines; rubberized matte cover is more durable and easier to grip; comes with soft pouch; HDMI output on the side; 8GB of internal memory allows you to record 2 hours of video; simple toggle through menu with basic editing features.
Uncool: Somewhat pricey; no memory card slot; no cable included for HD output to HDTV; chrome plastic trim on side shows smudges; no manual or advanced settings; no sill capture mode (but does have built in software to take stills from video).
The Skinny: The Flip Video UltraHD may not be the best looking mini camcorder out there, but it offers a respectable feature set and some of the best video for it's price. It's not as pocket friendly as the Mino. The Kodak Zi8includes an HDMI cable which the Ultra doesn't have and yet the Kodak is $50 less.
